Looking for something fun and different for this year's holiday parties and dinners? Well, me too! I was cruising through the wedding sites, and I discovered dozens of photos for candy "bars." Sometimes they are called candy buffets. Why wait for weddings? These are great for the holidays.
Candy buffets are brilliant. Fun, gorgeous, easy to do ahead, served at room temperature and no cooking! They can be huge -- taking up a whole table -- or just a little tray of goodies in jars. They can be really fancy or very simple. Just google "candy buffet photos" and this is what you get. I can see this tradition taking off at our house. The kids could easily assemble this themselves (if anything would be left over!)
A few Mylar balloons tied to the jars in silver would be really pretty. Illuminated balloons would be fantastic.
Another fun idea for the holidays that I stole from the wedding site was candied or caramel apples used as place cards. Put each one in a cellophane bag, tied with curly ribbon. What a pretty table that would make. They would also be very cute on a candy buffet. I understand they willl last two weeks and even longer under refrigeration. Perhaps a nice treat for drop-in company. Some postings said WalMart and Walgreens carries these all made up and ready to go.
So how about it -- anyone have experience on doing a great candy buffet? Best sources of candies for a good price in the Valley? What kinds of containers did you use for the guests to collect their candies in? Little cellophane bags? Plates?
