While walking Aidan to Kindergarten yesterday, I was approached by a woman who was rather distraught. She was well dressed, with a nice bob-styled haircut, and big dark sunglasses; probably in her mid-50s. We were walking by the crosswalk by the school, where a really nice black Cadillac Escalade had his rear-end parked over half of the crosswalk, blocking anyone who wanted to cross the street.
"Do you see how these people park at this school?" she asked.
"Oh yeah," I said, "But everyone breaks the law around here: they park in the fire lane, double park on the actual road, and yes, even park in the middle of the crosswalk."
"Well not me," she said, "That's why I walk."
As a mother of five kids, I know the challenges of dropping off kids at school. It's too bad we can't just beam them over from home to school like they do on Star Trek. But it really bugs me how so many people can't seem to follow simple driving laws.
It's really concerning. I've often wanted to put together a website documenting all the daily infractions I see around town when it comes to traffic violations...especially around schools. Can you imagine the uproar when people learn their dirty deeds are on the Internet?
